Let Nature Take The Lead.
Let Nature Take The Lead.
For over a century, synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides have taken a toll on our environment. They pollute our soil, waterways, and air, while also raising serious concerns about long-term human health. What started as a quick fix for plant growth has become a global issue, leaving behind weakened ecosystems and food grown in nutrient-depleted soil.
At ASAFTA, we're on a mission to change that.
We believe that growing strong, vibrant plants shouldn’t come at the cost of your health or the planet’s. That’s why we’ve created a clean, capsule-based fertilizer made from 100% natural kitchen ingredients. No toxic additives. No synthetic chemicals. Just real, recognizable materials your plants and the Earth can thrive on.
With ASAFTA, you can nourish your plants with confidence, knowing you're supporting a greener, healthier future, one capsule at a time.
I'm Gilad Yohananov, the founder of Asafta. Some people know me as the guy who turns banana peels and coffee grounds into plant food.
Growing up in Toronto, I spent countless hours with my grandparents in the garden and exploring the ravines. They never called it “fertilizing”, but they just returned food scraps to the soil, and the plants thrived. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that simple ritual of composting sparked something in me.
Years later, after finishing my degree in Pharmacology at the University of Toronto, I found myself torn between my love for science and my growing passion for plants. I started growing my own, experimenting with scraps from my kitchen such as used up coffee grounds, eggshells, banana peels to turn it into nature’s gold. And that’s how Asafta was born.
Asafta is my way of reconnecting with those early lessons of building something clean, simple, and sustainable. A plant fertilizer supplement that helps people grow stronger, healthier plants without relying on synthetic chemicals or plastic waste.
This journey has brought me closer to nature, to community, and to people like you who believe that small changes like dropping a clean capsule in the soil can lead to something beautiful.
Thanks for being part of the story. We’re just getting started.
While studying at UofT, Gilad ended up in a forestry course that changed the way he saw the city. They talked not just about parks and trees, but how green life actually supports infrastructure. How roots stabilize the soil. How canopy cover cools down entire neighborhoods. How living systems quietly hold everything together.
It reminded Gilad of those mushrooms he used to spot in the woods and that’s when things started to click.
Gilad started going deeper into the world of mycology. The more he learned, the more he was blown away. Fungi aren’t just decomposers, they’re communicators. Collaborators. They create underground networks that let plants share nutrients and signals. The mycorrhizal relationship between fungi and plant roots is fascinating.
At the same time, Gilad was experimenting with growing his own plants at home. He didn’t want a messy compost bin. He wanted something clean, easy, and effective. Something modern that still respected nature’s ancient systems. Asafta is built on that balance. Science and simplicity. Urban life and living soil.
It’s not just about growing greener houseplants (though that’s nice too). It’s about reconnecting with nature, with the soil, and with the quiet systems that make life thrive.
Thanks for being part of the journey. Let’s grow something better together.
We’re starting with something that feels small but makes a big impact: clean, capsule-based plant supplements made from real, natural ingredients. No toxic runoff, no chemical residue, just nutrients your soil and plants actually recognize.
But we’re not stopping there.
The next step in our journey is developing personalized capsule blends tailored to specific plant types, growth stages, and even climate conditions. Because no two plants are exactly the same, and their nutrition shouldn’t be either.
This is just the beginning.
Every Leaf is a New Beginning.
